ACV - Busk. Not really a review!

Andy Champion (bs); Graeme Wilson (ten/bar); Paul Edis (keys); Mark Williams (gtr); Adrian Tilbrook (dms).
Russell, even as I type, is preparing the actual BSH review to coincide with the official release on May 13 but, having at last found time to listen to it, I can only say that if Russell doesn't award this 10 stars he will be on the free transfer list!
It is one of those discs where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts which, when you consider the quality of the parts, make this one almighty powerful CD.
This is going to rate high on anyone's CD of the Year list and I hope Babel give it world-wide exposure.
Lance.
PS: And what about the cover design by John Say!

I bought a copy at the Sage and have been listening to it ever since. The blurb from the record label Babel says that on it you can hear 'hints of Canterbury-style prog rock, weightless free improv, deep modal swing, and sensitive balladry all mixed together...' but don't let that put you off - its fantastic! The compositions, the playing and the production are all excellent and really showcase how good our local musicians are. I've had to stop listening to it in the car as I found myself speeding faster and faster down the Coast Road trying to keep up with all that is going on in the music. Those 'Giant Mice' are really something else.
A reviewer from the launch gig at the Vortex in London said that the new album was like a 'slap in the face from the North!' I don't know if Andy and Co. are really challenging softie Southern jazzers to a duel at dawn but what we need up here very soon is an AVC late night, hot and sweaty live gig playing the album. What about it?
