Bebop Spoken There

Vieux Carré Jazzmen w. Colin Aitchison @ The Millstone.

Colin Aitchison (tpt/vcl); Paul Gowland (ten); Lawrence McBriarty (tmb); Brian Bennett (bjo); Dave Percy (bs gtr); Fred Thompson (dms/vcl).
(Review by Lance).
The Millstone had been closed for refurbishment, Not being an out and out regular, I had to admit the refurbishments didn't exactly catch my eye although a lady, who did catch my eye, commented on the improvements in the Ladies Loo. I took her word for it.
There were a couple of TV screens that may or may not have been there last time and a Scottish guy seemed to be banging balls around to some effect.
On the Jazz Centre Court the players too were having a ball - the top 5 seeds and the wild card from Kowloon were serving up aces with ne'er a double fault between them - so many musical tie breaks I lost count and, instead, sat back and enjoyed the music,
On trumpet this (and next Thursday) was Our Man in Hong Kong - Colin Aitchison - on parole for a couple of weeks from Ned Kelly's and blowing up an Armstrong like storm on trumpet and vox humana.
The rest of the band blew their socks off and nobody complained of sweaty feet!
Colin returns next Thursday (July 9) with, he tells me, 24 Kowloonies in tow!
Lance.
